AP Test Scores Data Distributions

AP Test Scores 2012 by subject


Look through the data and post a comment about the shape of the distribution of one of the subjects and comment on one other interesting detail.

  1. The AP Biology Test scores were skewed to the left. The percentage of people that got 1s were 35.1%.

  2. The data for AP Studio Art 2D Portfolios is mound shaped. A score of 3 was the most common, with a score of 2 or 4 approximately tied for second most common. The data, when graphed, is pretty symmetrical.

  3. The English Language & Composition Test scores were roughly mound shaped. On the Calc BC test, 47% of students got a score of 1.

  4. The AP Chinese language and culture test scores were skewed to the higher numbers. The percentage of people that got 5s were 73.2%.

  5. On the AP Psychology test students that scored a 5 is almost the same percent as the number of students that scored a 1 (20.2% students scored a 5 20.8% scored a 1. Few students (12.9%) scored a 2 and the biggest percent of students (26.3%) scored a 4. Overall students either did well on the test or they got a an extremely low score.

  7. The AP Language and Composition test was mound shaped, with the most student getting 3's, and less score frequency in the opposite directions. 47%, almost half of all students, got a score of 5 on the Calculus BC test.

  8. The Studio Art Drawing Portfolios test scores were mound shaped. Only 5.1% received a score of 1.

  9. The amount of 5's on the Spanish language test was 22.5%, and the data was pretty evenly distributed and mound shaped.

  17. Physics C, Mechanics scores are skewed to the right. 36% of people got 5's, with progressively smaller percentages until the 11.8% that received 1's.
